My Pathway story,

Meet MAson!

I’ve had the privilege of knowing Mason since he was four years old, and while my focus is now primarily on working with young adults, Mason has played a pivotal role in shaping my journey. Each year, we continue our tradition of visiting the pumpkin patch, and it’s truly remarkable to witness how much he has evolved and grown since our first meeting. Now, we share conversations about his friends, favorite games, his likes and dislikes, and even what he wants to eat milestones that reflect his incredible progress.

From the very beginning, Mason taught me that meaningful connections can be made even without words. I am deeply grateful to his mother, Allie, for allowing me to remain a part of Mason’s life and witness firsthand how he continues to flourish on his own path to independence.

My Connection with Mason: A Source of Inspiration

Welcome to Pathway to Independence! I’m thrilled to share my journey and passion with you.

My journey started when I worked with Mason, a previously non-speaking autistic boy. Seeing Mason progress from limited verbal communication to excelling in math and reading was remarkable. This experience fueled my devotion to empowering others through communication and spotlighted its impact on quality of life. Helping Mason find his voice and independence strengthened my faith in the transformative strength of language and connection.

Diagnosed in my twenties after college, I acknowledge the challenges neurodivergent young adults face. Although I skipped two grades in high school, I struggled during my early college years and after graduation due to a lack of structure. These experiences guide my approach to coaching and mentoring young adults.

I initially planned to open a private practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist specializing in childhood apraxia of speech. However, while working in a high school to complete my SLP-A hours, I rediscovered my love for education and supporting AAC users. This experience showed me how language skills can improve educational results and quality of life, motivating me to pursue significant change.

My scholarly journey then led me to consider founding a facility school. As I progressed through my graduate program in Educational Leadership, I realized that systemic change within education is a complex and demanding endeavor. Nevertheless, I developed a strong appreciation for working with young adults and teenagers and recognized a significant gap in resources for individuals with disabilities as they transition to adulthood. This awareness sparked a new passion in me to foster community and relationships for this underserved population.

Working with pragmatic social groups for AAC users, I saw the value of social interaction and skill-building. Motivated by this, I spent months building comprehensive groups focused on social, life, and conceptual skills. My goal was to create a positive setting where autistic adults could thrive, advocate for themselves, gain employment, and reach their potential.

Today, I am beyond excited to introduce Pathway to Independence a space where community, empowerment, and personal advancement take center stage. I am devoted to mentoring individuals on their road toward independence with love and dedication, accepting the unique, non-linear nature of growth. I promise to do all things with love, including coaching you! While our focus is on supporting neurodivergent young adults, our services aim to benefit anyone seeking support whether you are diagnosed, neurotypical, or suspect you may be neurodivergent. The transition to adulthood can be lonely, challenging, and overwhelming. We are here to help you!

Thank you for traveling with me on this journey. Together, we will make valuable strides toward greater independence and a brighter future.

With sincere enthusiasm,
